Abstract
Since 1987, Iran has taken part in the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). For the preparation of Iranian teams in IMO and other scientific Olympiads, a national organization for gifted students was established, and each year by using some multiple choice type tests, a few students are being selected  to enter special schools for gifted students in most cities around the country. The effect of this admission method on the system of education and the students’ problems are being studied in this paper
